Critical Home Repairs for Veterans
 
Montcalm County is one of only four Michigan Habitat for Humanity affiliates selected to participate in this pilot program to benefit our area veterans.
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) has developed a Critical Home Repair Program targeted specifically for veterans of the armed forces. Made possibe by the Home Depot Foundation, this program will focus on providing critical home repair for veterans in need.
 
To qualify:
  • The home must be owned or be the primary residence for the qualifying veteran and be located in Montcalm County.
  • The veteran or a designated family member/friend must commit to investing between 5 and 15 hours of sweat equity in the project.
  • Applications will be formally approved by the affiliate Board of Directors.
  • Veterans will be considered based on need, willingness to partner with Habitat and the ability to repay a zero-interest loan.
  • The program is open to all veteran groups.
  • Qaulifying veteran must show his DD214 indicating an honorable/general discharge.
  • The scope of work on the home must meet the criteria of Habitat's "Critical Home Repair" which will be determined during the application process.
  • A copy of current homeowner's insurance must be provided.
  • Applicant must demonstrate an abiliy to repay a 0% loan (for materials & paid labor if needed), most of the labor will be provided by Habitat's volunteers. The maximum amount allowed for each applicant is $10,000 and an estimated repayment plan will be approved by the affiliate and the applicant prior to the start of any work.
  • Applicants must commit to allowing before/during/after photos and to provide a short bio of the veteran that will be used for Public Relations and promotion of the program.
  • The total household income may not exceed 80% of the median income for Montcalm County -
